Back to the office chair — the biggest pitfalls

Back to the office chair — the biggest pitfalls

The shift from calm holiday days back to a busy office routine can be tough on both mind and body. Many of us now spend most of the day in an office chair, often with too few breaks and too little movement. The result can be tension, stress and poor sleep — a combination that quickly takes its toll on health and energy.

The toll of sitting still

Sedentary work is one of the biggest drivers of musculoskeletal complaints. When we sit still for long stretches, the neck, shoulders and lower back take on static load. That can lead to stiffness, pain and discomfort — and without breaks the problem can develop into something more serious and chronic.

What does stress do to the body?

The shift from holiday to work can feel overwhelming. Full inboxes, long to-do lists and tight deadlines easily trigger the stress hormone cortisol. That makes us unconsciously tense the muscles, especially around the shoulders and neck, which in turn aggravates back and neck issues. High stress also weakens sleep, creating a vicious circle of more stress, tighter muscles and poorer rest.

Sleep: the key to recovery

On holiday the sleep rhythm tends to drift, and sleep often slides to the bottom of the priority list. It can take time to readjust, especially when the alarm rings long before you feel rested. Combined with a higher tempo and more stress, sleep habits become harder to control. The result is poorer recovery — and a body that's more vulnerable to pain, tension and fatigue.

An important tool for the office day

So how do we help the body back into balance? Massage is a powerful tool for office life. It boosts circulation, releases tension in the neck, shoulders and back, and lowers cortisol. At the same time it stimulates the body's production of serotonin and dopamine — hormones that support better sleep and greater well-being.

At Squeeze we have deep experience treating office shoulders, stiff necks and back problems. We help you reduce tension, improve mobility, and give the body better conditions for everyday life.
